High Country Brass Becomes a DCI All-Age Drum and Bugle Corps
|
By Mike Ryan, President of the HCPAA Board of Directors
High Country Brass has been accepted as an associate member of Drum Corps International (DCI) in the all-age division!
Mike Ryan, HCB board president, attended the DCI Pacific meeting in Las Vegas, NV in September.
In addition to our DCI membership, HCB is pursuing membership in DCA (Drum Corps Associates) and we anticipate our
final evaluation from DCA in early 2010.
High Country Brass is nearing our long-awaited 501(c)(3) designation from the IRS so that we can
operate as a nonprofit, charitable organization. We hired a consulting firm to prepare the
documents and review our operational status, and submitted the final paperwork to the government
in November.
Several HCB members traveled to Rochester, New York in September to attend the DCA Championships and get a
first-hand look at what the weekend’s events held in store.
Twenty-six DCA corps of all levels of expertise and experience and talent, marched in the Prelims competition,
delivering an exciting and entertaining day for drums corps fans. On the following day, the DCA finals were also a pleasure to attend. The top four Class A corps and the top ten Open Class corps competed for the national titles.
The distinction between the two classes is that Class A is designated for corps that compete with between 35 and 65
marching members, while Open Class corps march between 65 and 136 marching members.
Those who attended were pleased with the high quality of musicianship shown at not only the individual, ensemble,
and mini corps events, but also in the Class A and Open Class prelims and finals competitions. It was generally
agreed upon by those who attended that HCB could compete very well in this competition.
